Synthetic Slate

For hundreds of years, slate roofing has been used for its durability and its beauty. With authentic lines and surfaces, Synthetic Slate highlights the beautiful character of slate, at the same time, through innovative design, enhancing roof performance.

Unlike natural slate, Synthetic Slate won’t delaminate or break and comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Synthetic Slate is BBA Certified and gives you outstanding modern-day style, whilst giving the appearance of historical elegance. Synthetic Slates are created with moulds cast from real slate to capture genuine peaks, plateaux and curves. Colour-through design and UV stabilisation ensure “stay-true” richness for traditional colours such as Pewter Grey and Plum, bold tones like Brick Red and unique selections such as Evergreen and Grey/Black blended tiles.

Synthetic Slate Mixes are another feature of our unique colour choices, they deliver uncommon elegance through boldly-appealing multiple colours to turn your roof into a work of art.

Synthetic Slate Key Benefits:

  • Looks extremely authentic.
  • Choice of colours.
  • Traditional Pewter Grey is the primary colour on most homes and is therefore the most readily available colour, usually within 4-5 days. (All other colours can be subject to 5-6 weeks delivery – but this isn’t long when planning roofing/building work.)
  • Minimal Wastage. Breakage of Synthetic Slate is negligible when handling/cutting/fixing. Natural slate may incur 5-15% breakage/shrinkage factor depending on the quality, thus keeping the cost of replacing the roof slates to a minimum.
  • Synthetic Slate is lightweight… from only 12 kgs/sq. metre (half the weight of natural slate). Very useful for re-roofing applications where timbers may be suspect, or when designing the loading specification for a new roof.
  • Synthetic Slates are marked with nailing and exposure overlaps as well as horizontal spacers, this helps to maintain integrity when fixing.
  • Synthetic Slate is dimensionally accurate… so there is no need to sort for thickness before loading the roof. Natural slate can vary in thickness, causing gapping, and subsequent breakage if walked on.
  • Synthetic Slate doesn’t crack or split, particularly when cutting for hips, valleys, etc.
  • Synthetic Slate is quicker to lay than natural slate, for many of the above benefits.
  • Synthetic Slate can also be used for Vertical Cladding.
